About Zac Carte
Operations leader. Certified coach. Catcher.
Leadership learned in Appalachia, tested at scale
I was born and raised in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Appalachia taught me that leadership comes down to directness, respect, humility, and a real commitment to people and community. Those values have carried me from a college baseball diamond to national healthcare programs.
Today I serve as Senior Director for National Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) at the largest healthcare company in the U.S., where I oversee national clinical quality and patient safety initiatives across dozens of Care Delivery Organizations. My team has been building solutions with AI on the front lines of that work.
Before that, I directed a large-scale IT and PMO integration for the State of West Virginia, governing a PMO of 250 people on a $300 million project that brought child welfare, child support, and Medicaid onto one eligibility platform. I also owned and ran Play It Again Sports in Parkersburg for eight years, building that business while holding a full-time job and raising a family. That was the hardest part, and it taught me more about leadership than any title.
I founded Carte Performance Group to bring the same approach to the leaders and athletes I coach: clear expectations, honest feedback, and work that gets results.

On the field
Baseball is where I learned to lead.
I caught at Ohio Valley University from 2004 to 2007 and was part of a WVIAC championship team. Catching teaches you to lead from behind the plate: you see the whole field, you call the game, and you carry the staff. I still live that role as a coach.
I am deeply involved in baseball across Southeast Ohio and West Virginia, from high school to travel ball to affiliate development, and I coach with a pitch sequencing method I have refined over years of scouting.
